Why is it necessary to remain sexually pure? Our culture and society minimizes the impact of sexual relationships as though they are as mundane as waking up every morning. However, the scriptures give clear indication that we should avoid all sexual immorality. God isn’t keeping us from all the fun; rather, He wants to protect us from the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical harm that we can bring upon ourselves. What’s the big deal about sexual immorality?
#1) Sexual immorality undermines our relationship with God. We can’t follow Him with all of our hearts and still serve our own selfish desires.
#2) Sexual immorality exposes us to a stronger emotional bond without commitment. Opening ourselves up intimately draws our emotions at a deeper level that can lead to unmet expectations.
#3) Sexual immorality gives Satan a foothold into our lives. He’s will use it to stunt our spiritual growth for his evil plans to steal, kill, and destroy us.
#4) Sexual immorality lessens our appreciation for the value of another person. Our lack of agape love for their spiritual growth exposes our lust at the cost of their dignity and integrity.
#5) Sexual immorality opens us up to the possibilities of physical diseases. Purity protects us from having to deal with sexually transmitted diseases that can result in lifetime health issues.
#6) Sexual immorality becomes a difficult stronghold to break. Once enslaved by sexual desire, due diligence and accountability will be necessary to control our thoughts and emotions.
#7) Sexual immorality may prevent us from connecting with the one that God has for us. Marital intimacy is enhanced by the couple’s unity and commitment to each other without the baggage of other relationships.
Dear Lord, I want to be sexually pure and I need Your help to do it. I pray for wisdom and strength from the Holy Spirit to do Your will. Amen.
