Scratching and Clawing to Friday

Divider

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24, ESV

Have you ever had those weeks at work when you are scratching and clawing it out just to get to Friday? It’s like Friday has become a holiday, and we wish everyone “Happy Friday!” because it’s the end of the work week. We can’t wait for the day when we can sleep in, stop staring at a laptop, and stay home and relax for a few hours.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a break from work. The Lord established a day of rest from our labor so that we can refresh ourselves. However, living for the weekend can become a stumbling block in our faith.

Every day that we wake up with the strength, ability, and mindset to work is a blessing from the Lord. Regardless of our work responsibilities on the job, our real boss is Jesus Christ–every day and not just the work week. God doesn’t want us to mindlessly press through each workday; rather, He desires that we take each day at work as a gift from Him. We discipline our minds to focus on what God wants to do in and around us every day.

When we stumble in with drudgery, like many in the workforce, we give the wrong impression of who we are in Christ. We are His ambassadors in the workplace. Our attitudes, work ethic, and ambition reflect the measure of God’s presence in our lives. We can take every day as an opportunity to rejoice in God’s goodness regardless of the work we must accomplish.

Takeaway

Our attitudes about the work week reveal who God really is in our lives. We can rise above the temptation of just getting through the day to working each day as to God with a spirit of thankfulness.
