Risen from the Dead

The man who had died came out.

John 11:44

Jesus’ presence was requested Martha and Mary because their brother was sick. Jesus didn’t immediately make a way to their home, and as a result, Lazarus, died. It was four days later, when Jesus arrived and raised Lazarus from the dead.

What did Lazarus do after being dead for four days and brought to life? The Bible gives us no further account of Lazarus nor his sisters (except in John 12:10, when the Pharisees considered murdering him as well as Jesus). Could we imagine that Lazarus came out of the grave with a new attitude about life? Did he accomplish goals that perhaps he put off before death?

We don’t know what Lazarus was like after his resurrection. However, we can experience the same new lease on life when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Before we knew Christ, our attitude on life was limited to our own abilities or lack thereof. Yet, when we experienced His exceptional grace, there is nothing impossible with God. We are free from the bondage of sin and death to discover our purpose and calling in life.

It’s one thing to live a wasted life before we knew Christ. It’s another altogether, when we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out our destiny in Him. No longer should our days be humdrum with the same old mindsets or locked in a desperate race to acquire empty, earthly pleasures.

We have a new beginning, a second birth, and another chance to reclaim our calling. The Lord desires that His children succeed in overcoming doubts, fears, and past mistakes. We are reborn, resurrected, and renewed to do His magnificent will while we are alive on this earth.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’ve been reborn in Jesus Christ and I desire to live my life to the fullest of your calling and purpose. Help me to remember this every single day. Amen.
