Right on Time, God

Divider

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness.

2 Peter 3:9

The older I get, the more I appreciate timeliness. People who show up on time, whether it’s for church, work, or other events, give others the respect of their time and energy. Those who come consistently late seem to lack appreciation for what others have to do in their absence and tardiness. I have been on both sides, being early and late, so I’ve learned to work on and better my time management.

While we may be early or late, our God is always right on time. However, it’s His time schedule and not ours. When we pray, we want God to move right away. Yet most of the time, it doesn’t happen that way. In fact, sometimes it may seem to get much worse before things get better. Yet after a while, our faith gets stretched and weathered as we learn to trust in God’s perfect timing. But why does He seem to wait until the 11th hour?

Remember, God’s ways aren’t our ways.
We can only see our side of things while God sees everyone and everything around our situation. Our God is sovereign and all-powerful. He can make pathways cross between people we could never imagine.

Remember, God’s thoughts aren’t our thoughts.
We tend to think a lot about our situations and all the different options that could work out. Yet our God isn’t limited by our possibilities. Rather, He has impossibilities that can come together right on time.

Remember, God’s timing isn’t our timing.
We get in a hurry for what we think should happen right away. God doesn’t live in our finite human time. Rather, He is eternal. One day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day for God (2 Peter 3:8).

Remember, God’s plans aren’t our plans.
We can make our plans, but we don’t have the control to make everything happen as we want. Our God has plans for us that are for our good, even when we don’t understand how it’s all going to work together.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to trust in Your perfect timing even when things don’t seem to happen fast enough. I know You have my best interest at heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
