As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we celebrate and learn from the diversity within our ministries. We are one in Christ because we were once all sinners and now saved by grace. Our spiritual heritage and unity is far greater than any culture, race, or skin color issues. While we can’t solve the racial problems all around us, we can demonstrate the love and grace of our Lord to each other through R.A.C.E.:
R – Recognize and appreciate our racial differences.
God could’ve made us all the same—we could look the same, act the same, and like all the same things. Yet, He gave mankind the beauty and diversity of appearances so we could love and appreciate one another.
A – Accept each other as different, but love and learn about the diversity within us.
The world wants a dividing line between those who are different. However, believers need to see beyond all the chatter of our culture and hear the heart of God in racial issues. Our response to racial differences should mirror Jesus’ response to the Samaritan woman in John 4:9-26.
C – Choose love over hate every single day for every single issue.
We want justice for those who’ve been victimized, abused, or even killed because of their race or culture. Our battle isn’t with people, but with the Satan, who desires discord in the church to render her powerless against his tactics. However, love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13)
E – Engage in intercessory prayer and Christ-inspired activities for racial reconciliation.
One day we will each stand before God and give an account for our words, thoughts, and actions (or inactions) in racial issues. As believers, we are called to be wise in our responses and give grace to those who don’t know how to respond righteously.
Dear Lord, I pray for racial reconciliation to be demonstrated in Your church. May the world know that we are Christians by our love for one another regardless of our race. Amen.
