Why did God choose Bethlehem as the place of Jesus’ birth? It was small and insignificant as a town; yet, the Risen Savior was born in that humble town. Many times the Lord will choose what is considered the smallest and weakest to show His greatest glory. As children of God, we may not be the smartest, wealthiest, nor the strongest; however, those are the ones that He uses to get His work done.
We know this because scriptures teach us that it’s not “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6). Many of us have struggled because of our weaknesses and situations have rendered us vulnerable. We don’t feel strong nor brave enough to deal with those who stand against. Yet, just as God chose little Bethlehem as the birthplace of the King of kings and Lord of lords—we are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ.
It’s time for us to stop being the victims and start walking as the victors. Satan wants to deceive us into thinking that we will never overcome our weaknesses. But he is a liar and the father of all lies. The devil knows that even the weakest among us can defeat his wicked plans against generations of people.
We were meant to live in peace and victory over temptation, sin, and shame. God sent His Son so that we may be free to live up to the calling He has on our lives. We may never be recognized or appreciated by those we live around. Yet, in heaven there’s a book that will be opened and rewards will be given to those who faithfully followed after Jesus with all of their hearts and minds. Even the smallest among us is great in the kingdom of God.
Dear Lord, help me to see myself as You see me. I know that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
