King Ahab was a mess of a king for the nation of Israel. He ignored the calling of God on all the kings to serve only Him. However, he went beyond the sins of his father and married a wicked woman who led him and the nation to serve an idol god. His choice to make trivial of God’s commands brought painful consequences on generations of people.
It’s easy for us to look at King Ahab’s sins and judge him for his foolishness especially because we are privy to the outcomes of his choices. However, do we ever stop to reflect on what our generation deems as trivial or light sins that God has condemned? The trivial “sins” of our nation will result in consequences that our children’s children will deal with in their lifetime.
While we can’t change the minds of an entire nation of people—we do have the ability to live our lives with purity, integrity, righteousness, and good works. We don’t do these things so that we can get to heaven, because our salvation is based on faith in Jesus and not our works. Our intentional desire to do good works can influence others towards to the Lord Jesus Christ.
We aren’t called to condemn people for their sins. Rather, we are to demonstrate the gentleness and kindness of the Spirit of God in patiently showing the way to eternal life. The sins that have been trivialities to the lost will definitely land them into eternal death and darkness. We can be the light to shine out the grace of God so that unbelievers can see the truth about their sins.
Dear Lord, help me to see as You see the things of this world. Keep me from being deceived by sin so that I may live my life in purity and righteousness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
In His Service,
