No One Gets Away With It

But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

2 Samuel 11:27

Most criminals don’t ever think they will get caught. Many of them continue in a life a crime because they get away with it many times. However, they will eventually get caught. In the same way, when King David saw Bathsheba bathing on her rooftop, he immediately decided to sleep with her. He really thought he would get away with it.

Yet David didn’t plan on her getting pregnant. He didn’t realize that one night of selfishness would result in his murderous plan for one of his most dedicated soldiers. David thought after the funeral that taking Bathsheba as his wife would make it all go away. However, that wasn’t the case. The thing he did was displeasing to God.

Before we judge criminals and David too harshly, we must also take a look at ourselves. How often do we slander someone’s reputation and keep going as if we didn’t say anything? How many times has a wife disrespected her husband and then gone before the church to pray? Many times we think it’s not a big deal; however, our wrong actions are displeasing to God.

When we are connected to God on a regular basis, we will have a check in our spirit when we have done wrong. It’s not always a big fat check. Most of the time, it’s a gentle discomfort in our hearts. We have a choice in those situations: to ignore or to confess.

If we confess what we’ve done wrong, there is forgiveness and cleansing from sin. We are then free to continue our faith journey free from restraints. God loves us too much to let us get away with our sins.

Prayer

Dear Lord, forgive me of my sins and help me to be quick to deal with them. Continue to discipline me so that I can be free to do Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
