The Israelites wandered through the desert for 40 long years. In this nomadic journey, they needed the resources to make bread for their daily substance. The Lord rained down manna from heaven in which they would make food for their families. He only gave what they needed for that day or for the Sabbath—anyone who would try to hoard it would find maggots and a dreadful odor filling their tent.
Yet, when they finally reached the Promise Land, there was plenty of food for them to eat on their own. Therefore, the manna never came back again. It had a specific purpose and time period before it was no longer needed. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we also come to a time of no more manna in our lives. The manna in our lives could represent people, a career, a ministry service, or way of life that served its purpose when necessary. Yet, a different time and calling on our lives has manifested and we can no longer depend on that manna for our calling.
God may strategically remove people, situations, or things in our lives because He is ready for us to mature and move on to something else. He has a way of knocking aside everything that we once leaned on for security in our lives. It’s not that they were bad things, just like manna—there was a purpose for that time of our lives.
When the manna ceases in our lives, we may go through a time of bewilderment and struggle with feeling abandoned. However, the Lord wants us to know that He is and will always be our Source of life and meaning. He will never fail nor forsake us and His plans for our lives aren’t based on the things of this earth.
Dear Lord, You are the bread of life for me and without You—I can do nothing. Help me to quickly recuperate from my loss of manna to move forward with You in this new journey of my life. Amen.
