Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved … rightly handling the word of truth.
Many of us struggle with faith. We want to be more faithful, we want to express genuine faith in God, and we want to strive towards living not by what we see but what we believe. Yet if we don’t make time to read and study the Scriptures diligently, our faith will be severely anemic.
Paul wrote in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Our ability to soar in the faith comes from our hearing, knowing, and living the word of God. Neglecting the discipline of studying the word causes our faith to be shaken in times of trouble.
The daily reading of God’s word, even in small increments, can build up our faith. The Holy Spirit can speak to our hearts with the truth of Scriptures. When we feel doubt, fear, regret, or bitterness attempting to creep into our hearts, it’s the word of God that keeps us on the right track.
Our charge from God goes beyond the knowledge of Scriptures. We are called to be doers of the word and not only hearers (James 1:22-25). As we live out God’s word, our faith becomes stronger and we find ourselves walking in our calling. How can we study God’s word more diligently?
We can make time every day to read and meditate on Scriptures (Joshua 1:8).
We can listen to preachers of sound doctrine as they teach us from God’s word (Romans 10:14-15).
We can journal notes from what we’ve read in our Bible (Jeremiah 30:20).
We can dig deeper in our studies of the Scriptures to look up the original meanings of words (2 Timothy 2:15).
We can read books, blogs, or articles of sound doctrine that help us apply God’s word (Titus 1:9).
Dear Lord, I want to know Your word better. I pray for strength to be consistent in my daily reading, studying, and living out Your Scriptures. In Jesus’ name, amen.
