Living out your Faith at Work

Philippians 2:15

Many believers find themselves trying to balance their faith with their work. But what if your manager asks you to lie or cheat? What if there’s an unspoken policy of charging customers more than necessary? How are believers to live out our FAITH at work?

F – Focus on God’s purpose and provision.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

When at our jobs, we look to God’s plan and purpose more than man’s. As we look to the Lord, we find peace and direction for the work we do everyday.

A – Ask God for wisdom when dealing with deceitful practices.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5)

When we ask God for wisdom on what to do—we must ask Him in faith. This means we believe He will show us the answer at just the right time. We have to calm down and trust Him.

I – Initiate the search for other job, educational, or trade opportunities.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

Our faith in God’s direction will be evident not only by what we believe, but also by what we do. For some of us this means taking the step of faith to get our resumes together, perhaps seek educational courses, or look for promotion opportunities. Whatever we do, we do in faith.

T – Talk to mature godly people who are doing what you want to do.
“Plans are established by counsel; by wise guidance wage war.” (Proverbs 20:18)

If we ask the Lord, He will lead us to the right people with the life experience and knowledge to help us along the way. Christian fellowship with consistent church attendance and participation gives opportunity to connect the godly and mature believers.

H – Have faith in God to show you the right direction.
“And Jesus answered them, ‘Have faith in God’” (Mark 11:22)

Regardless of our work situations, if we have faith in God then we know He hears our prayers and will answer in due season. Our faith will be strengthened as we read and meditate on His word every day.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I need Your help and intervention at work. I don’t always know what to do, but I want to do the right thing. Lead me in the paths You have for me to follow. In Jesus’ name, amen.
