Just Do It!

So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

James 2:17

Have you ever struggled with moving forward on something? It’s hard when we feel tired, oppressed, or weary. Sometimes we know the right thing to do, but we can hardly bring ourselves to get up and do it. When we are faced with this dilemma of paralysis, we can turn to God for the strength to move forward because when we are weak—He is strong. What are the steps to getting up and getting the work done?

Step #1) Recognize that God has a plan and purpose for our lives.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Step #2) Remember that our strength to move forward comes from the Lord.
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” (Psalm 28:7)

Step #3) Repent of the times when we were lazy and selfish with our time.
“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.” (Proverbs 24:33-34)

Step #4) Remove those roadblocks that cause us to stumble in the faith.
“Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:21-22)

Step #5) Remain steadfast in our desire to overcome the weakness of the flesh.
“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:24-25)

Step #6) Renew our commitment to follow after Christ with all of our hearts.
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

Step #7) Regain our spiritual perspective to hear God’s approval of how we lived our lives.
“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:21)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray for Your strength to move forward and get things done. Lead me in the right ways of thinking so that my actions will honor You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
