I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
We live in a sex-saturated culture where it seems abnormal for a healthy person to choose to abstain from sexual intimacy until they are married. Almost every popular TV show makes sexual relationships with several or more partners seem normal. These same programs forget to add the parts about a lifetime of dealing with sexually transmitted diseases; broken families due to adultery, immorality, and abuse; the emotional damage that lingers for years; or the devastation of rape and pornography.
For the Christian single woman, the desire for marital intimacy can be strong as she waits for the right man. She may feel pressure to give up her virginity or commitment to abstinence because of the feelings of isolation, loneliness, and temptation.
Sexual intimacy in a healthy marriage can be beautiful, exciting, and wonderful. However, it’s only 1% of the marriage—there’s still the 99% of the time you must live with this person for the rest of your life. This entails everything that builds or destroys the relationship, and sex won’t always be the focus or the answer for your problems.
Jesus is 100% good all the time—He never has a bad day and never takes you for granted. When you are tempted to give into your sexual desires, either literally or in your thought life, in that moment ask Jesus to show you Himself. Pray for the enlightenment and revelation of His greater love for you. By humbling yourself, the Lord will help you overcome your desires and rest in His provision for all your needs.
Dear Lord, I desire to follow You with all my heart, soul, and body. Help me to resist the temptations of this world and look to You to satisfy all my needs. Amen.
