I Would’ve Lost Heart

Divider

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.

Psalm 27:13

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we look forward to our heavenly home–a place of joy and rest from our labor here on earth. While we should look with a spirit of expectancy for the next life, we can also experience the goodness of God here on earth.

In Psalm 27, we discover how the psalmist struggled with wicked enemies, military threats, and false witnesses. This psalmist even felt abandonment from his family. He turned to God for his refuge, and the Lord delivered him. He wrote about the potential of losing heart unless he believed that God would be good to him now.

There are many times when we feel the same way, struggling with conflict and rejection. As much as we look forward to heaven, we also wonder if our lives on earth will always be with strife and trouble. Yet God gives us hope, hope that we will see His goodness even now.

We experience His goodness every day whether we recognize it or not. He gives us life on earth, and it’s a gift. He gives us spiritual gifts for the body of Christ. He gives us new life in Jesus Christ. He gives us His Holy Spirit to comfort and teach us His ways. He blesses us abundantly in His timing and way. He will never leave or forsake us.

While we can’t have everything we want when we want it, we can wait patiently on God to give us courage and renew our strength. (Psalm 27:14). He is a loving Father who longs to bless His faithful children.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I believe that I will see Your goodness in my lifetime. Give me the courage and strength of heart to get through the difficult days, as I know better ones are coming. Amen.
