So that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Many of us women have struggled our whole lives with desiring the approval of others. Perhaps we had authoritative parents who never seemed to be pleased enough with our lives. Sometimes, even if we had a balanced childhood, we may struggle with trying to please other people in order to make up for our weaknesses. It doesn’t matter if it’s our spouse, children, parents, boss, or neighbors—we can never fully reach that approval status.
The beautiful reality of God’s grace is that when we put our trust in Jesus, God says “I approve of you!” He doesn’t approve of us because we have been so good. He doesn’t approve of us because of what church we attend. He doesn’t approve of us because of anything other than Jesus.
Accepting Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for our sins exposes us to the incredible, immeasurable, and awesome grace of God. It is His unmerited favor towards those who recognize that they are lost without Jesus Christ. We can’t earn His grace; we just receive it.
When we struggle with accepting God’s approval, we need to step back and ask ourselves why. Do we think that God’s grace isn’t enough? Do we feel compelled to win His favor with our good works? Are we willing to accept that His grace gives us everything we need to live victorious lives?
When God sees us, He smiles–there’s my beautiful, precious daughter, whom I love so much. We can embrace His grace, even when we don’t think we deserve it. We can take up His grace in faith to help us get through the difficult days. His grace is more than enough for every single daughter in God’s family.
Dear Lord, I recognize that You approve of me. Not because I’ve always done everything right but simply because of your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to embrace Your approval as I set out to do Your will every day. Amen.
