How do I get CLOSER to God

Divider
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

James 4:8

Isn’t it amazing that the Creator of the heavens and earth desires to be close to us? He’s perfect in every sense and we are imperfect in all our ways. His word is firm and unchanging, while our words and actions don’t always much up. His love for us is absolutely and completely unconditional, while our love for Him can waver in times of difficulty.

Yet with all of our faults, God desires to be close to us.

If we desire to be close to Him, it’s has to be more than a fleeting feeling. Being closer to God means that we recognize our need for His presence in our lives and we’re willing to do what it takes to know Him better. How can we get CLOSER to God?

C – Call out to God in prayer.
“Out of my distress I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me free.” (Psalm 118:5)
L – Let go of sinful choices that create distance between God and you.
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2)
O – Open up your heart and mind to God’s word of truth.
“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” (Psalm 119:15)
S – Seek opportunities to serve others in the name of Christ.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10)

E – Expect God to respond to your desire to know Him better.
“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

R – Remain steadfast in your pursuit of God.
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1)

Prayer
