How to Dig out of Despair

Divider

There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off

Proverbs 23:18

How do we dig ourselves out of despair before it consumes our joy and peace? Perhaps we’ve experienced a winter season of cold, long, and dark days where nothing blooms or tweets out a lovely song in the morning. It could be from an illness, disappointment, discouragement, trials of many kinds, or unanswered prayers.

We can resist despair by looking up to God. He knows when we are going through a hard time. He will never desert us in our time of trouble even if we don’t feel His presence. God offers us true joy, peace, and contentment regardless of our circumstances. We can wake up and step out every day because of His faithfulness. He longs for us to spend time talking to Him about what’s going on in our lives.

We can also pray God’s word when we are feeling low. The Bible is God’s love letter that speaks to every situation in our lives. By stepping out with expectancy and prayer, we simply ask God to speak to us from His word. God’s word is powerful and effective in helping us move away from despair and towards His unfailing love and grace.

Our lives will be full of triumphs and tragedies no matter where we live, what we do, or who we know. Regardless of our life situation, God provides us with a future hope, and nothing can sever this hope. A future hope is guaranteed for those who trust in Jesus. Even when we sense despair, the Holy Spirit can quicken our hearts to trust in God’s future hope. The indwelling presence of God’s Spirit keeps reminding us of His enduring love.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I need Your future hope to help me when I sense despair. Help me to pray Your Word so that I will be strengthened to press forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.
