I will restore to you the years that the locust have eaten
When there is a plague of locusts in an area, their devastation is complete. Locusts eat everything that grows, leaving no food for humans or animals. It’s incredibly impossible to defend a crop against a cloud of locusts once they descend upon it. It can be even more difficult to wait out the eggs they lay afterwards, which allows more locust destruction.
Sometimes we have those years where it seems the locusts have eaten everything up and there is no hope for the future. It could be a marriage that has ended, the diagnosis of an incurable illness, a rebellion of children, or the loss of an occupation. Difficult moments as these can leave us in a dry, parched place spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Yet there is hope in God.
The Lord has the ability to take everything that is good, bad, or ugly in our lives and turn them for our good. No other god in any other religion lays claim to that. Yet our Lord Jesus Christ knows the beginning and end because He is the Alpha and Omega. He can take the desert of our lives and turn it into an island paradise.
Our responsibility is to turn our hearts towards God and trust Him, even though the locusts seemed to have eaten up everything we had hoped for ourselves and family. We must resist the urge to fall into despair and bitterness by reaching out to the Lord every single day. He gives us the strength to move forward even though we feel weak. God is not man that He would lie to us; rather, He is well able to make all grace abound so that we can accomplish every good work in His name.
Dear Lord, we look to You for hope in the dry locust-eaten land. We trust in You to bring restoration for those years we have lost. You are God alone, and we will put our entire faith in You. Amen.
