Have you ever felt led to give even when you weren’t sure you had enough for yourself? It’s one thing for you to give out of your excess, but what if there’s a need for you as well? As believers we need to not be afraid to examine our hearts when it comes to giving out of our resources.
We are instructed to give as we have determined in our hearts. However, some of us may have embraced false teachings of giving to God so that we can receive more from Him. Or some of us may struggle with low self-esteem and may use our gifts as an opportunity to feel better about ourselves. It’s wise to take a moment to pray and reflect on the reason you feel led to give.
If you sense resistance within, it would be good to talk over your dilemma with a mature believer until you sense God’s complete peace. Afterwards, you may still not be ready to give. However, if you sense the Holy Spirit’s peace that you are in the right direction, the next step is faith, giving out of your need and not always your excess.
God promises to meet every one of your needs according to His riches and glory and not your bank account, 401K, or savings. His blessings go beyond mere earthly treasures and are exposed in the presence and power of the Spirit in your life. Resist giving into fear or compulsion; rather, pray diligently and trust in God to lead you in the right direction, even if you don’t have all the answers. You will be blessed beyond measure.
Dear Lord, help me to know and hear Your voice when it comes to responding to the conviction of giving. Remove any doubt, fear, or selfish motivations from my heart. Fill me with Your peace as I continue to trust in You to meet my every need. Amen.
