Sometimes when life gets difficult we are tempted to doubt God’s goodness. Our circumstances overwhelm us because we can’t see our way out of a bad situation. At that moment, the devil shows up with a boatload of reasons why we can’t trust God. Our flesh will give us all kinds of excuses about why we should be thinking of ourselves. And the world entices us to join everyone else on the wide road leading to destruction.
Yet, right in the moment of despair is the best time to rehearse to ourselves the goodness of God. It’s not fate nor coincidence that reigns our lives—it’s the Lord! He has a plan for each one of us that is good. Even though our present moment may be filled with pain, we will see His goodness in this lifetime. How has God been good?
God promises to meet all of our needs according to His riches in glory. (Philippians 4:13)
God promises to make all things work together for our good. (Romans 8:28)
God promises to never leave nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)
God promises to hear every one of our prayers according to His will. (1 John 5:14-15)
God promises to generously give us wisdom when we don’t know what to do. (James 1:5)
God promises that He has a plan for our future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
God promises to grant the desires of our hearts as we delight ourselves in Him. (Psalm 37:4)
God promises to open the windows of heaven and pour us out a blessing as we bless His church. (Malachi 3:10)
God promises to keep His covenant to the generations of the faithful. (Deuteronomy 7:9)
Dear Lord, You’ve been so good to me. I thank You for the good things that You brought into my life and that You are faithful to continue into my future. In Jesus’ name, amen.
