Grace of Giving

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8, ESV

Greece has been in the midst of a major financial collapse. Not only Greece, but many countries have mismanaged their assets to find themselves at the mercy of other countries’ decisions for their survival. As a result, governments at every level are raising taxes and cutting off many programs to the poor, sick, orphans, and widows. It’s the way of the world.

Yet this is not the way of those who are called by God to give not only out of their abundance but, many times, out of their need. It’s easy to give when there’s money leftover in the bank for vacations; large purchase items, such as homes or cars; and shopping trips. However, when money is tight and you have just enough to pay your bills, it’s not so easy. Some of us don’t even have what it takes to pay our debts from week to week.

And yet we come together as the body of Christ each week with the expectation of giving in order to take care of the needs of our church and community. It’s tempting for us to make excuses and resist to give out of the grace that we are given every day.

The Lord is able to make all grace abound to those who give out of a grateful heart to others regardless of their financial status. It’s an act of faith that is rewarded beyond mere currency. In return, our Lord gives us an abundance of grace beyond our abilities in our homes, work, bodies, and minds to do great things in His name.

Giving out of our abundance or need is an act of grace towards others. The Lord will give us an abundance of grace to accomplish greater works in His name.
