I don’t fully grasp the real vs. fake media news so many people fret about these days. What bothers me most, keeps me awake at night, and disrupts my thoughts during the day is the proliferation of bad news. A young person’s death because of a drunken driver, an elderly person being abused because of their infirmities, or a family’s destitution because of the increasing use of gambling, drug, and/or alcohol addiction—all of these and more continues to be reported out every day.
Yet, the bad news doesn’t stop there. Paul wrote to Timothy “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.” (2 Timothy 3:1) As believers, we shouldn’t be surprised at the increase of evil at every level of our society. Yet, neither should we be dismayed nor overwhelmed. Our center has to be Jesus Christ as we live in these times of uncertainty. We can experience God’s peace that passes all understanding in the midst of chaos. (Philippians 4:6-8) However, we need to be intentional in our pursuit of God so that our hearts don’t grow weary in doing what is good.
Our intentionality isn’t based on our church attendance—although being an active part in a ministry does more good than harm. It’s based on our commitment and relationship with Jesus Christ. When we spend time talking to God about what concerns us for our family and community, He gives us a spiritual perspective and how we can effectively influence others to know God.
God speaks to our hearts through the Holy Spirit so we can know His voice and follow His way of peace. However, in order to know His voice, we must learn to be intimately acquainted with His word, the Bible. The Holy Spirit would never lead us outside of the sound doctrine of the Bible.
Every generation will experience uncertainty at some level in this world of sin. Yet, here’s the Good News: Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again so that we could have everlasting life! When our lifestyle is seeking after God and teaching others to do the same; we will know His peace in any and every situation that life throws at us.
Dear Lord, in these times of uncertainty I want to know You more and reflect Your peace to those around me. Speak clearly to my heart through Your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
