Sometimes it’s difficult to be a single Christian in a community of married people. Many of us wonder why we haven’t been able to experience a lifelong relationship with a believing partner. Some of us have made horrible decisions in relationships and we are fearful of failing again. Some of us have never experienced a relationship; yet, the longing of companionship still thrives in our hearts. A good man finds a good woman:
When there is peace and contentment…
“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” (Philippians 4:11)
A believer who longs to be married—finds their peace and contentment before the marriage. They are whole in Christ whether single or married because their joy is steadfastly connected to the Lord.
When there is prayer and expectation…
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)
A believer who longs to be married is praying in expectation that God will answer in His will and timing. They are seeking the right partner in God first and foremost.
When there is purity of mind and body…
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!” (Psalm 119:9-10)
A believer who longs to be married takes great effort to keep their minds and bodies pure by avoiding the music, movie/TV shows, or social media that tempts them towards sexual immorality.
When God sets it up…
“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” (Job 42:2)
A believer who longs to be married will learn patience in trusting God to bring the right person at the right time. They know that God has their best interest at heart.
Dear Lord, help me to keep my eyes on You to bring the best lifelong partner to my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
