For I know the plans I have for you
Some of us are very good planners. We have vacations laid out to every detail so that there are no surprises or disappointments. Many of us have our retirement plans in order so that we can relax in our golden years without the stress of working every day. Young Christian couples also make plans to get married, have kids, buy a home, etc.
However, life doesn’t always fit into our plans. Loved ones get sick and die before we have had a chance to say goodbye. Infertility happens to many couples who long to raise children in the Lord. Retirements don’t always include a divorce or financial ruin due to mismanagement of others. What are we supposed to do when things don’t always go the way we desired for ourselves or family?
We don’t always get to choose our life journey. The Lord has a plan for every single one of His children. His plan includes the good and bad of this world. Just because we become Christians doesn’t mean that our lives are insulated from disappointments or tragedies. In fact, many believers around the world suffer more because they refuse to deny Jesus Christ as Lord.
The beauty of having a relationship with Jesus Christ is that we know that He is in control of our lives and that He will never leave or forsake us. When we have struggles in this life, just knowing that God has a plan that is for our good can give us hope for the future. We aren’t abandoned just because things are going badly. Rather, we cling to the cross even more and increase our dependency on the Lord. His plans for us are good, even when it gets tough.
Dear Lord, I know that Your plans for my life are better than mine. Help me to trust You with my life plan and to choose faith over fear when times get hard. Amen.
