God’s Favor in Difficult Times

God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs

Daniel 1:9

When Daniel and his friends were taken as slaves of King Nebuchadnezzar, it was the end of their lives as they had known it. They were to learn a new language and culture to serve a vicious pagan king. We have no insight from the Bible if any of their families survived the siege of the Babylonian armies. Yet, God remembered them in their struggles and gave them favor in the midst of great difficulty.

Our God still gives favor on His people in times of difficulty. We may struggle yet His favor remains. Having the favor of God during difficult times doesn’t always mean things get easier right away. Sometimes things get more difficult before they get better. However, the Lord hasn’t forgotten us and He will pour out His grace to give us strength to move forward.

In the midst of a pagan society, Daniel and his friends chose to obey God rather than men. Just like Daniel, we will have to make decisions that separate us from what everyone else is doing. We may stand out as unusual and different from the flow of our culture’s beliefs. Yet, we know that we “are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” (1Peter 2:9)

The favor of God opens doors for us no one can shut and shuts the doors no one can open. His favor means that we have hope even when everything looks hopeless. Through the Holy Spirit we are compelled to move forward in faith and not by what we see. The Lord’s favor will help us to rise beyond what we ever thought possible.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for Your favor that is on my life. Help me to trust You during these difficult days. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
