God is Your Witness

There are many godly women who stay with a difficult husband because they want to honor their covenant with God. These wives may suffer through times of feeling unloved and unappreciated by their husbands. These men may not be mentally or physically abusive; rather, they may be selfish and without compassion for the women whom God has given them.

She can find peace in the midst of a hard marriage when she turns to God for strength, wisdom, and the ability to overcome. This is possible because God is an on-the-scene witness to every interaction between that husband and wife. He takes into account every single word and action that is offensive and without excuse.

Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25). While it isn’t easy to always love someone as Christ does, it’s definitely possible to do so in the power of the Holy Spirit—just as it is possible for a wife to unconditionally respect her husband in the power of the Holy Spirit. No one is without excuse, and God sees everything.

One day each husband and wife will stand before God and give an account of their marriage. She will not give an account of her husband’s actions—only hers. Therefore, knowing this, a godly wife can stand firm in her faith that God is in control and He will handle every difficult marital situation. As a witness to a difficult marriage, the Lord knows exactly how to counsel and comfort wives as they turn to Him for help.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to be the wife that You called me to be. I pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to give me strength and wisdom in this marriage. Amen.
