For He performs what is appointed for me.
Life has many surprises for us, and they are not all good surprises. We could be surprised with a breakup in our relationship. We could be surprised by a job loss. We could be surprised by the decisions of our children. We could be surprised by a medical diagnosis. We may even be surprised by our own temptations to sin. Many times these surprises and others give us reason to pause and pace in order to figure out our next steps. We naturally try to think through every situation in order to choose the best option for us.
Yet nothing ever surprises God. He’s not up in heaven pacing with us trying to figure out what will happen next. He knows the beginning and end of our life situations. The Lord is our source for peace in the process of our surprises. He keeps us calm and collected as we seek His face for direction.
We have the Holy Spirit, who eases our minds with peace in the process. It will get tempting to pace back and forth with worry and anxiousness about our situations. However, we must resist this temptation and cast all of our cares on God because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). As long as our eyes are fixed on Jesus and not on our situation, we will rise in victory and praise to God for His deliverance.
This process will ebb and flow, as we may be prone to unsteadiness due to the duration and severity of our trials. But that’s okay as long as we consistently return to the Rock of our salvation for restoration. Our down moments won’t define our faith because we will experience God’s comfort and support.
Dear Lord, I long to have that peace that passes all understanding through this difficult time. Help me to cling to Your power in the Spirit to rest in Your plan for my life. Amen.
