As believers, we have received gifts from God that we haven’t always deserved. He gives us the gift of life, salvation with eternal life, peace, unconditional love, etc. It’s up to us to not only receive His gifts, but to be ready to give gifts to others. What good GIFTS can we give to those God has put around us?
G – Grace
“And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” (John 1:16)
We give grace when we give people a break when they disappoint us. Many times, we are harder on those who are closest to us than those who are not. This is an opportunity for us to see people the way that God sees them—as fallible at times, but much loved.
I – Integrity
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” (Proverbs 10:9)
We give the gift of integrity when we live up to what we know is right to do. As believers in Jesus Christ, our integrity reflects the glory of God in our lives and is a testimony to those who don’t yet know Him. It’s not always easy, but it’s well worth it to be a person who’s known for their truthfulness.
F – Forgiveness
“Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” (Colossians 3:13)
We give the gift of forgiveness to those who ask for it—just as God has forgiven us. We also choose to forgive those who don’t repent through the Lord rather then directly to them. Forgiving others frees us from the weight of bitterness and allows us to grow in our relationship with God.
T – Time
“My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!”
(Psalm 31:15)
We give the gift of time when we serve others out of a pure heart and not looking for anything else in return. Our time is precious and sometimes very tight—yet if we make time for other people, God returns our sacrifice in ways we never expected.
S – Salvation’s story
“So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?’ (John 4:28)
We give the gift of salvation’s story when we speak to others about how God has changed us from the inside out. Our story of going from darkness to light can give hope to those who’ve never understood the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Dear Lord, I pray for the strength to give good gifts of grace, integrity, forgiveness, time, and my salvation story so that Your name will be glorified. In Jesus’ name, amen.
