Give Yourself Time

Divider

My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

Isaiah 32:18

Have you ever needed a vacation from your vacation? You take time off work, set aside a certain amount of money, and make plans for your vacation only to find yourself exhausted. And then you have to go back to work!

The Lord set aside one day a week for us to rest. If you are like me, it may be tempting to fill up our Sundays with so much good activities that we forget that we are supposed to take time to rest as well. It’s understandable because no matter the size of a church, there’s always need for people to serve, especially in children’s ministry.

We need to serve in the church, and if everyone gave time to the ministry, none of us would be overworked and tired on Sundays. Yet we must have balance in our lives to give ourselves time to regroup and be restored in our faith.

When we allow our minds and souls to rest, there is a regeneration of new ideas and concepts that we can use in ministry, at work, or with our families. God gave us an imagination so that we can creatively use our gifts for the building of the kingdom of Christ. However, if we are tired, worn out, and exhausted, we don’t have much to offer, and this also gives opportunity for the flesh to act up.

We are blessed to have one day a week for rest and relaxation. It’s our responsibility to take care of our physical bodies (the temples of the Holy Spirit) in order that we may effectively reach out to others who don’t know Christ.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to discipline myself to find my rest in You on a daily basis and especially on Sundays. I want to be in the right spirit, mind, and body to do Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
