From Breakdown to Breakthrough

Divider

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.

Psalm 51:17

We often attempt to avoid the place of brokenness. When we have been broken, we have willingly humbled ourselves to the ground literally and figuratively. We cry out to God for help and deliverance, so that our lives aren’t wasted away to meaninglessness. We recognize that we are entitled to nothing. In fact, when we are truly broken in our spirits, there’s nothing left. We no longer attempt to justify our sinful behaviors and we willing accept the consequences.

When we are truly broken, we can experience the breakthrough. The breakthrough means that we are completely forgiven and cleansed from our sins. It means that we have a renewed vigor of hope and purpose to drive our day. A breakthrough represents a life free from regret, guilt, or shame of past mistakes. The Lord uses everything that was meant to destroy us, divide relationships, and demean our inner spirit—for our good. We have a future driven by thankfulness to God for cleaning us up.

The road from breakdown to breakthrough can be short in duration or expand over a long period of time. We are the ones who determine the length of time based on how quickly we humbled ourselves under the mighty hand of God. (1 Peter 5:6) When we’ve been reproved by God and others, we have a choice: accept or reject.

We can accept that we have done wrong and seek forgiveness. Or we can reject the promptings of the Spirit and those God sends our way. This rejection is pride and it will keep us from experiencing the joys of a breakthrough. Our breakdown can open the doors to the day of our visitation—when the Lord gives us clarity on the vision of our calling.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I haven’t done the things that I know to do is right. Right now, I humble myself under your hand seeking grace and mercy to go from my breakdown to my breakthrough in Jesus Christ. Amen.
