Divine Footsteps

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way.

Psalm 37:23

When we’ve put our trust in God, He divinely sets our footsteps in the direction of His will. Our responsibility is to trust in Him and have faith in His plan for our lives. God orchestrates our going out and coming in every day. We are not directionless even if we feel this way. He leads our path perfectly. What do the scriptures reveal about our steps?

God has a primary direction for our lives even if we plan differently.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

God enlarges the place for us to step to keep us from falling.
“You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip.” (Psalm 18:36)

God provides the path through His word so we can know the right ways.
“My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.” (Psalm 17:5)

God’s promises to keep us so sin doesn’t reign over our lives.
“Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133)

God enables us to take steps of faith that take us beyond what we ever thought possible.
“When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.” (Proverbs 4:12)

God provides Jesus Christ as an example for us to take the right steps.
“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.” (1 Peter 2:21)

God pulls us out of the unsure paths and sets our feet on the solid Rock, Jesus Christ.
“He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.” (Psalm 40:2)
