Give us this day our daily bread.
If you are like me, you give yourself just enough time in the morning to get ready for work. I keep my routine simple for the most efficiency of time. However, I’ve discovered that when I’m running behind, I’m more tempted (and sometimes succumb) to not reading my daily scriptures. It can feel like too much to fit in an already crowded morning.
Yet reading Scriptures every morning is vital to my day. Although it’s an easy task to skip, it’s the most important habit in my life. It’s not that every verse I read may come back to me in some way that particular day. Rather, it’s the constant feeding of my soul that allows me to press forward in the faith. The Scriptures are enlightening and regularly come to my mind when I feel discouraged about issues in my life.
The daily bread of God’s word is a gift to every believer. From Genesis to Revelation, He reveals Himself to us. When we are accustomed to the exposure of scriptures on a consistent basis, we will find the right words when we are asked to pray, the right wisdom when we don’t know what to do, and the right thoughts when our minds are besieged with worry.
Skipping out to face the day without our daily bread means that we are less equipped to face the troubles that a day may bring. We become more forgetful about God’s promises and how He will look after His word to perform it.
When we read Scriptures from the Bible every day in faith, we become stronger Christians against the daily attacks from Satan. He never takes a day off against the followers of Jesus Christ. Knowing the word of God keeps us in the right frame of mind to recognize the temptations and influences of the devil and the world.
Dear Lord, help me to commit to reading Your Scriptures every day without excuses. I pray that You use the Bible to help me know You better every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
