The hope of the righteous brings joy.
Not many of us have the luxury of setting our own work hours. Most of us have to be somewhere for an extended period of time during the week. Some of us love the work we do while others dread it every single day. However, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit to have joy regardless of the work we have to do.
Those who live without God have times of happiness, but they can’t know the joy of the Lord. This is because joy is a gift only for believers. Our joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit and not regulated to what type of job we have or for whom we work.
If we have the gift of joy, we need to share it with those who work around us. While they may not understand our joy, they will feel it when we bring it to work with us. Our joy isn’t rooted in whether we get a promotion, raise, or recognition for our work. The joy of the Lord should be evident as soon as we arrive on the scene in our attitude, actions, and words.
We don’t have to force joy out of us. All we need to do is to reflect on our lives and how it has changed from darkness to light because of Christ. We remember the good things that God has done for us even though we didn’t deserve them. We meditate on how God has answered our prayers when it seemed impossible for anything to change in our lives. We have joy as a part of our everyday lives when we learn to tap into it.
Dear Lord, help me to dig deeper than the surface for joy. Help me to remember, reflect, and meditate on your goodness so that joy is always evident in me. Amen.
