Blessing the Lord

Bless the Lord O my soul and all that is within me

Psalm 103:3

Have you ever had a pity party for yourself? You start down that pathway of how everything has gone wrong and nothing will ever be right again. Pretty soon your heart is heavy and you can’t move forward. This is the best time for you to bless God!

The fastest way to pull yourself out of the dumps is to begin to bless God with thanksgiving. You make yourself stop complaining and start remembering how God has blessed you. You thank Him for the sun, rain, stars, clouds, and trees and how He uses nature to provide food for everyone on the earth. You take notice of the little things around you–air to breathe, food to eat, clothes to wear, etc.–and give thanks.

It’s amazing how easy your heart will immediately change from a spirit of heaviness to a lighter, more grateful focus. Your mind will rest and relax in God’s presence as you reflect on how He has always provided for you right on time. When your heart and mind focus on blessing God, your body will also respond with a steady heartbeat and relaxed muscles.

Your Father in heaven is more than worthy of being blessed by your words, thoughts, and attitude. Through prayer or singing words of praise, you not only bless God but receive the blessing of His presence in your home, work, or car or anywhere you are.

Take the time today to really be a blessing to God. He inhabits the praises of His people who remember His goodness and grace shown to them.

Prayer

Dear Lord, forgive me when I forget to be a blessing to You. I praise You for being the Lord of my life, and I’m so grateful for Your presence over me. Amen.
