Are You in a Drought

Divider

My soul thirsts for you like a parched land.

Psalm 143:6

Have you ever been in a physical, emotional, or spiritual drought? It’s not a fun place. We begin to think that God has forgotten about us. We struggle with thoughts that perhaps we’ve missed the door of opportunity. Our circumstances seem to speak louder to us than God’s Word, and our prayer time doesn’t have the same power we remember. We may feel emotionally withdrawn or physically exhausted.

Regardless of the kind of drought we are dealing with, it’s important that we keep in mind four principles of truth:

1) Our drought experience isn’t uncommon. (2 Corinthians 1:8)
When we feel dry in our walk with the Lord, we need to remember that this is part of the maturity process of our Christian walk. There will be times of great joy and sorrow, times of peace and chaos, and times of doubt and faith. God uses everything to draw us closer to Him and to help us grow up in the faith, even in times of drought.

2) We are still in the middle of God’s plan for our lives. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Even though we may feel we have missed something, God has each of us right where He can use us best. Many times we are looking for an escape route, and God wants us to look around at all the opportunities to be like Christ in our environment.

3) We aren’t forgotten by God. (Psalm 115:12)
Our feelings of abandonment have to take second place to our unwavering faith in a good God. He will never leave or forsake us. We are deeply loved and cared for by the Lord. Our faith has to rest in His promises when our feelings and circumstances make us feel alone.

4) Our drought season will pass. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Just like any season of life, this too will pass. There will be a time when we will experience fullness of joy where our lives will settle from chaos. God will take care of His people in every season whether good or bad.

Despite our times of drought, we are blessed because we are the children of God. Our time on Earth is limited and troubled; however, our future home in heaven is eternal and full of beauty.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’m making my way through this season of drought with my eyes on You. Keep my mind focused on Your word and my heart connected in prayer regardless of my circumstances. Amen.
