Many women suddenly find themselves vulnerable after the loss of or divorce from their spouse. Their spiritual, emotional, and physical security has been torn down after many years of dependency. The temptation to live in fear and anxiety of the unknown keep them awake at night. Yet there’s hope in Christ.
The blessing that Moses prayed over the children of Israel before his death provided comfort that God will not forsake them. While they depended on God for food, protection, and direction, they were also heavily dependent on Moses as His representative. Without the physical presence of Moses, there was the same temptation of fear and anxiety.
When we’ve been intentionally or unintentionally abandoned, we can pray Numbers 6:24 over ourselves and our children. In faith we receive the Lord’s blessing to keep, protect, provide, and sustain the family without a husband or father. This is the prayer to pray over the children before they go to school and before they lay down at night. This is the prayer to meditate over before it’s time to go to work or pay the bills. By doing so, the focus is squarely on God and not on our meager strength or finances.
The Lord is able to bless and keep us beyond what we could ever ask or expect. Our faith will be stretched and tested, yet we will come out as pure gold and also leave a legacy of trusting in God for our children. There may be days when we feel like God has abandoned us, especially when many things go wrong at the same time. However, He promised to never leave or forsake us, and He always keeps His promises.
Dear Lord, I ask that You bless and keep my family today, that You make Your face shine on us and be gracious to us, and that You lift Your countenance on us and give us peace. Amen.
