Looking for Love

But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13

Many of us are looking for a lifetime love to meet our desires for companionship, friendship, and intimacy. However, sometimes we’ve looked in all the wrong places and found ourselves used, abused, or neglected in the relationship. If we want to find the best love for ourselves, we need to use the right compass:

Look upward.
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. (Psalm 73:25)
God wants us to find our first love in Jesus Christ before we find our earthly love. When we find Jesus, we experience His unconditional love through the Holy Spirit. In this, we can also give unconditional love to the person God has for us.

Look inward. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. (James 4:3)
Our next step is to look within ourselves to check our motives for wanting a love partner. It’s not just about what we receive, but also what we are willing to give in the relationship to make it last a lifetime. True love also begins with loving, accepting, and forgiving ourselves so that we can be whole and ready.

Look outward.
I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts. (Psalm 119:63)
After looking to God and examining our hearts, we need to be open to beginning a relationship with a godly partner. The one for us is someone who’s already in the faith and ready to partner in an united spiritual journey. Lean on the Lord in prayer and trust in godly counsel as you look outward in faith.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to find a life partner who loves You and will love me unconditionally in Christ. Help me also to be the right person for them as well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
