Many of us have had to pass tests in order to do certain things. For example, we have to pass a driver’s test to drive vehicles. Doctors, lawyers, and other professionals have to pass tests to practice their occupations. Students have to pass tests to graduate. Tests sometimes make us nervous because we don’t want to fail. Yet, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we also go through seasons of testing to stand firm in the faith.
Most of us don’t like these spiritual tests. If many of us had our way, we wouldn’t take the tests at all. Many times we don’t even realize on the outset that we are being tested. We’re just going about our lives as usual. Yet, God loves us too much to let us remain spiritually immature. He knows how we can become too comfortable with our lives especially when everything seems to be going our way. The spiritual testing reveals our weaknesses, such as pride that can cause us to forget that God is the source of our strength.
The testing of our faith reminds us how much we need God and our lack of spiritual maturity. If we pass the times of testing, we not only come away stronger in our faith, but we also find ourselves more patient. Although we may not sense joy in the hour of our testing; yet, we will have joy when we’ve persevered in the faith.
Of all tests that we need to take in this lifetime, the test of faith is the most important one because it’s the only one that has eternal rewards. God has promised the crown of life to those who persevere through difficulties of this lifetime. No pain, tribulations, disappointments, or trials are ever wasted in the life of God’s child—it’s a test that we can pass as long as we keep our eyes on Him.
Dear Lord, I want to pass this test that I’m going through right now. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I can persevere and one day receive the crown of life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
