Love Covers a Multitude of Sins

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:8

What kind of love covers a multitude of sins? The love that the world offers is conditional—you may get what you give, but then again—you may not. Many of us have experienced the conditional love that only comes when we are doing the things that people want us to do. Yet, once we mess up, their love is revoked and we have to win it all over again.

Yet, the love that comes from God is unconditional. He loves us when we do the right things and He loves us if we do the wrong things. He can’t love us more or less—God just loves us from the top of our heads to the tip of our toes. We can disappoint Him with our thoughts, words, and actions—but He won’t take His love away. Nothing in heaven nor on earth can ever separate us from the awesome power of God’s love for us. (Romans 8:39)

When we experience this amazing acceptance of love from God, we are able to give the same type of love to others. Love covers a multitude of sins because when we are loved right—we want to live right. We want to stop doing those things that bring pain to those who love us. Sins are forgiven as we love each other the way God loved us.

Our love for one another in the body of Christ sets us apart from every other religion in the world. We know the sacrificial love of God that led Jesus to give His life for us. In the same way, we give our lives for each other in gratitude for the love given to us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to love others as You have loved me. Help me to love unconditionally those You’ve placed in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
