Have you ever been in a situation when you can only pray “help”? Sometimes life throws us a situation that we never saw coming. It could be chronic illness, a relationship breakup, death of a loved one, job loss, etc. We are in such a state that we can’t really form the right words to adequately pray to God. In those times, we can seek Him with H.E.L.P.
H – Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you! (Psalm 102:1)
If we ask God for anything that is according to His will, we know that He hears us. Knowing in our hearts through the assurance of the Holy Spirit that we are heard by the Creator of heaven and earth makes a major difference in our prayer time.
E – Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
When difficulty comes our way, we can rest in the comfort of God’s peace. Our troubles don’t have us, we can find the presence of God that increases our faith, peace, and joy even in the midst of it.
L – Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. (Psalm 33:22)
As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are much beloved by the Father in heaven. He longs to fill us with the certainty of His unconditional love that will keep us steady when the winds of trials blow our way.
P – Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law! (Psalm 119:29)
When we cry for help, we also need to rectify our hearts and minds if we have been walking in disobedience. Our loving Father will allow pain to infiltrate our lives if we stubbornly resist the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
Dear Lord, You are my source of hope and peace in the midst of this hardship. Help me to continue to look to You for the strength I need in my time of trouble. Amen.
