Victor or Victim

Divider

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:37

When Christ died on the cross, He stomped on the head of Satan and broke his power over God’s people. Yet the devil continues his work of deception on the minds of Christians. He does his best to convince us that we are the victims instead of the victors in Christ Jesus.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are often taken advantage of by those who know that we care about their souls. Because of the “turn the other cheek” teaching, some unbelievers attempt to provoke us to act in anger and return evil for evil. Christians in many countries around the world are persecuted daily for rejecting gods of different religions. Are Christians the victims?

Absolutely not. The powers of the devil and his demons are limited. He can’t touch one hair on the head of a believer without God’s permission. In the book of Job, Satan was restricted on what he could do to Job, and even though Job suffered, he didn’t turn away from God. As a result of God’s goodness and Job’s faithfulness, he was blessed more abundantly than he was before Satan’s interference.

Because of the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are in a position of victors not victims of the devil or circumstances of life. In the end, we will see Satan and his demons thrown in the lake of fire, where they will be tormented forever and ever (Revelations 20:10).

In the meantime, as victors of Jesus Christ, we must keep our eyes on the prize and not on our circumstances. We push past how we are perceived by others and stand in the gap as prayer warriors for the lost. We refuse to give up or give in to Satan, our flesh, or the world. Victory is ours in this lifetime and the next.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to remember that I’m a victor in Christ Jesus and not a victim of circumstances. Give me the courage to stand in the gap for my lost loved ones in spite of their ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.
