Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
When my son was growing up, he would always tear up the knees of his jeans. Because I purchased all of his jeans from a store with a guarantee to replace them, we were able to afford his clothing. A guarantee–whether it’s clothing, warranties, etc.–is extremely valuable and helpful when we need an item replaced. However, it’s only as good as the word of the guarantor to follow through with their promise.
A guarantee from God is solid. He keeps every single one of His promises (Joshua 21:45), and not one word from Him will return void (Isaiah 55:11). God promises that every person who confesses that Jesus is Lord and believes in their heart that God raised Him from the dead will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). He doesn’t change His mind when His children make poor choices. He also doesn’t excuse sin from His children; rather, as a good Father, He will discipline them with consequences (Hebrews 12:6).
There is greater peace, boldness, and assurance when we know that our salvation in God is secure in Christ Jesus. He doesn’t snatch away our salvation or deny us as His children any more than our biological children can no longer be our children. They could say they disown us, change their names, whatever; yet their DNA makeup will show that they are our children. Our spiritual DNA is made up of the presence of God in our lives. Even if we attempted to walk away, He will draw us back to Himself.
On the other hand, if we live in the fear that our salvation can be easily lost, we find ourselves bound and limited to experience the beautiful grace of God. He gives us everything we need to live saved lives so that our works of righteousness will be a blessing to others.
Dear Lord, renew a greater assurance and trust in my heart that my salvation is secure in You. Help me to walk faithfully according to Your word so that my light will shine to those who are in darkness. Amen.
