Who’s in Control

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

Revelation 3:7, ESV

Have you ever been in a situation where a salesperson made you feel like you had to make an immediate decision? Recently I was told by a car salesman that if I waited on the purchase, someone could buy the vehicle. I agreed and said, “Then it wasn’t meant to be.” He replied, “Then you are giving someone else control of your life.”

He was partly correct–I was giving Someone control, that is, God. I didn’t want to make a quick decision that could affect my finances negatively or find myself pacifying my carnal desires. I had to step back from the situation and seek God in prayer for clarity.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we accept Him as Lord of our lives in every aspect. Being Lord means that we turn everything over to Him in faith, holding nothing back. No fence straddling for those who love God. In doing so, we accept that He is in control of our lives and not us. Every decision we make is placed on the altar of faith for God to open or shut the door.

We can choose to let Him be in control, or we can suffer when we attempt to control everything in our lives. There’s great joy when we release the controls and see how God interweaves every aspect of our lives to bring Him greater glory.

Takeaway

Choose to release your whole life to God, holding back nothing. He’s already in control, but our release reveals our complete trust in Him in every situation.
