Where Is Jesus

Divider

Lord, if you had been here.

John 11:21

Have you ever read the books about a character named Waldo? In books and computer programs, it’s a game to find the character carefully hidden in colorful illustrations. He has a striped shirt, colored hat, and glasses that children look for diligently. Even with Waldo’s striking appearance, it can be difficult to find him, as there are many different ways he can be hidden.

Some of us feel like Jesus is hiding in the picture of our lives like Waldo. We are seeking Him in our homes, work, community, and world. Sometimes it can feel like finding a needle in a haystack when we are feeling overwhelmed or abandoned by God. We pray, we read the Bible, we fast, we stay involved in the church. And while we witness others being blessed by God, we are still wondering, “Where is Jesus in my situation?”

If we aren’t careful, our hearts can be filled with discouragement, and we may sense hope seeping out of our hearts. Yet it’s in these moments when our faith is stretched and tested that Jesus is closer than we could ever imagine. He is never far away from us, and our struggle is the opportunity to press forward even when we don’t “see” Jesus in our situation.

The truth is that Jesus is always present whether we sense Him or not. He keeps His promise to never leave or forsake us. He promises to use every situation in our lives for our good. He promises that we will overcome the trials and tribulations of our lives. It’s up to us to turn to God and seek through the Holy Spirit to see Jesus even in the murkiness of our lives. Where is Jesus? Right now–wherever we are.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to see You in this tough place of my life. I struggle with doubts at times, and I need to look for You through the lens of the Holy Spirit. Open my eyes to trust. Amen.
