Before my divorce, I was pretty sure I was going the course that God had planned for me. However, through the process and stress of the divorce, I began to feel that perhaps I missed God or maybe He had changed the course of my life in a different direction.
Recently the Lord has brought back to my heart and mind—the same vision or journey that He gave me years ago—that is, teaching, speaking, and writing. What I’ve learned is that God allows detours in our lives to help mature our spiritual walk with Him that brings a depth to our testimony. What are we to do when God gives us a VISION for our lives.
V – Vocalize to God and others where you think you’re being led to go and do.
“My mouth shall speak wisdom; the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.” (Psalm 49:3)
I – Investigate the present and future impacts of this vision.
“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?” (Luke 14:28)
S – Seek out wise, godly, and mature counsel.
“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22)
I – Initiate an action plan in the direction that God is leading you.
“For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.” (James 2:26)
O – Offset life detours by speaking and knowing God’s word.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
N – Never let the impossibility of the vision prevent you from taking the baby steps towards God’s vision.
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)
Dear Lord, I pray that You renew and reignite the vision of the purpose and plan You have for me. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight. In Jesus’ name, amen.
