Since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him
Many of us struggle with pleasing people. We want to please our spouses, children, bosses and coworkers, extended family, friends, and neighbors. However, people-pleasing is exhausting. We can please some of the people some of the time, but we can’t please all the people all the time. It’s a difficult task that rarely results in good things happening around or within us.
The only cure to pleasing people is to seek out pleasing God first every single day with every single thing we do. When seeking to please God, we find renewed hope and energy to press through our day. God gives us everything we need to live when it’s our aim in life to please Him.
When we please God, other people will be pleased as well because we are no longer held hostage to their whims and desires. We have boundaries set that allow us to give grace and mercy to other people but not find our joy or peace wrapped up in their happiness. Our freedom frees us up to forgive and move forward with life because we know God is pleased, and that’s all that matters.
Pleasing God brings calm to our lives because we are no longer anxious and afraid of disappointing others. We seek God’s approval and His restoration when we fall short. Our resulting calmness helps us to clearly see His purpose and plan for our lives. This allows us to make decisions that lead to the fulfillment of God’s calling on our lives. We capture glimpses of grace to achieve greater accomplishments because we aren’t burdened down with other people’s expectations.
Dear Lord, I need to refocus my aim in life towards pleasing You. Forgive me for those times I moved towards pleasing people instead of pleasing You. Amen.
