We never Stay Down

In the sport of boxing, many times an opponent goes down, but there’s a count of ten for them to get back up and into the game. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can fall because of our own shortcomings and weaknesses; yet, even in those times—we can rise back up. Because we are filled with the Holy Spirit who gives us power to overcome…we never stay down!

Even though our consequences of bad decisions may remain, God is with us and He gives us the strength to get up. A sinful choice doesn’t negate us from God’s love and forgiveness. We must choose to repent and receive His cleansing from our sin. What are the steps for getting up after we’ve fallen down in a spiritual, emotional, or physical battle?

Step #1) Reflect on the process that led to our falling down in the faith. (Haggai 1:5)
We need to consider our ways before God to make sure we aren’t continuing the same mistakes leading to the same end.

Step #2) Recognize our responsibility in the fall. (1 John 1:9)
While others may have influenced us towards bad decisions, we still bear the responsibility of making the wrong choices.

Step #3) Repent of any sins we may have committed in the process. (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means that we make the clear and undivided choice to turn away from those behaviors that brought us down the wrong path.

Step #4) Reach out to God for forgiveness and reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:17-20)
When we reach out towards God, we know that He is a patient and forgiving Father who longs for us to be right with Him.

Step #5) Receive His grace and strength to get up and start again. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
As children of God, we can be strengthened through His grace to get up and move forward in faith.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’m tired of falling down in the faith all the time. Help me to walk through the steps of faith so that I can stand firmly in Your perfect will for my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
