As God’s friend, Abraham was able to take part in a conversation with God on His impending judgment on two great cities. Abraham immediately responded with requests of intercession for those people. He bravely kept asking God for mercy if there were only ten people in the city who were righteous. God promised to relent His judgment if this were true. Even though ten people weren’t found, God graciously delivered Abraham’s nephew Lot and his family from certain destruction.
As heirs of Abraham, we can build a friendship with God that will be evident in our growing faith in Him. Abraham became a friend of God because he believed in Him even though his own body was diminishing. If we would step out in faith and trust in God against the odds in our lives—our friendship with God will become stronger.
Dear Lord, I want to be your friend as Abraham was. Help me to grow in my faith to intercede and know your will for the world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
