Vengeance is the Lord’s

Brothers and sisters in Christ are mercilessly murdered for their faith around the world almost every single day. People with hatred and envy in their hearts attempt to destroy the faith. As history has proven, their sinful actions are futile as God can use every death to bring Him glory and draw others to His grace. Yet, it’s still difficult to comprehend the pain, suffering, and persecution of Christian believers around the world. What do the scriptures teach us about the persecution of believers?

They will receive the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10)
They will receive great reward in heaven. (Matthew 5:11)
They will receive a hundredfold in heaven from what they lost on earth. (Mark 10:29-30)
They will be persecuted just like Jesus was—but the Spirit of truth will bear witness. (John 15:20, 26)
They will bless those who persecute them because God will take vengeance on their behalf. (Romans 12:19-21)
They will endure when persecuted. (1 Corinthians 4:12)
They will not be forsaken when persecuted. (2 Corinthians 4:9)
They will have sufficient grace from God when persecuted. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
They will suffer persecution for godly living. (2 Timothy 3:12)

Some of us have been persecuted for our faith, but not to the same degree as others in the world. Our responsibility is to pray and provide for those who are suffering for the faith. If we remain out of touch with the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Christ, we miss an opportunity to actively engage ourselves with what matters most—building the kingdom of God.

Prayer

Dear Lord, keep me from the spirit of apathy for the persecuted church. Open my eyes to see what I can do to help encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
