Solomon started his reign as king with the charge of building a temple for God. With the wisdom of God and the abilities of the most skilled artisans, Solomon built a magnificent temple. On the day of dedication, the glory of God filled the place so that even the priests couldn’t minister.
Since Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection—the curtain in the temple was torn in two—meaning that we no longer needed a temple to meet with God. Our bodies serve as the temple of God where His glory can reside. When we ask Jesus into our Jesus, He gives us the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit helps us to discern between right and wrong. He leads us into all truth and comforts us when we are hurt. His role is foundational to our ability to live a successful and fruitful Christian life. Without the Holy Spirit, our temples can’t reflect God’s glory to others.
In order to keep our temple sacred, we need to make sure that we have completely surrendered our hearts to the Lord. We also need to strive towards living righteously and with purity so that the Holy Spirit will find a home within our hearts. He won’t continue to strive with our sin, but instead will convict and compel us towards repentance.
When our temple is set apart for God’s glory, He does His greatest work within and around us. Our finite minds can’t fathom the power and presence of God when we give Him free rein in our lives. Solomon’s temple was beautiful and exquisite; yet it pales in comparison to the mighty work of God who changes our inner being from darkness towards the eternal light of Christ.
Dear Lord, help me to keep my temple sacred and set apart for Your purposes. I want the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
In His Service,
